Location

Only 30 miles north of Dallas TX, the city of McKinney combines a healthy respect for its historical roots while embracing a vibrant future. Settled in 1848, McKinney has the charm of a quaint Texas town, coupled with the energy and activity of 100,000 residents. A revitalized historic district with tree-lined streets brings crowds in search of antiques and a quiet cup of coffee. On the other side of town, upscale homes are being built by the thousands, surrounded by all the modern conveniences one could ever need. Visit www.mckinneytexas.org for more information.

Property

Cornerstone Ranch is a group home for adults with disabilities located on 42 rolling acres in McKinney, TX. Covered with majestic pecan trees, the property is on the outskirts of the suburbs in a slightly rural area. While the country atmosphere is strong, we are only a 10-minute drive to job opportunities and medical facilities on Highway 75, and approximately 40 minutes from Dallas. We have a nice mix of open pasture and densely forested creek. The home is located almost half a mile from the front gates, giving us a peaceful setting where we can breathe deep and allow our residents to work at a pace that is comfortable for them.

In October of 2015 we completed construction on our 5400 square foot “Barn” Activity Center. The Cornerstone Ranch Day Program moved its base of operation from a local church to this facility on our property. This facilitates a broader range of activities as it provides close access to our large garden and alpacas.

Facilities

Cornerstone Ranch, tucked at the back of the property, is a modern hill country home built in 2006 and designed for the specific needs and safety of our residents. Spanning 10,000 square feet, the home provides residential care adults with disabilities and a host family. An emergency fire sprinkler system covers the home, and is fully integrated into a monitored smoke detection and security system. The staff and resident portions of the home are well defined, giving the residents a real sense of pride and ownership in the fact that the house is theirs.

The front door leads into the 32-by-32-foot resident living room. This room has an airy feeling of spaciousness as two walls are comprised of 18-foot-wide windows and lofty 11-foot ceilings. Residents have several recreational opportunities in this room, such as an Internet station, craft table, a 42-inch wide-screen television, and a closet full of board games. There is also an in-wall, 180-gallon fish tank that promotes therapeutic fish gazing.

The home is for males and females, but they are separated in gender-specific wings. The doors to these wings have a dedicated alarm system, so the staff is alerted if residents leave their halls at night. This keeps the ladies and the gentlemen apart while unsupervised, and also allows the staff to be notified if a resident is sick or in need of attention.

In each wing of Cornerstone Ranch, there are two single rooms and one double-occupancy room, allowing space for four men and four women in their respective halls. The single rooms are approximately 12-by-12-feet, while the double rooms are about 14-by-14 feet. Each wing and its four residents are serviced by a community bathroom that contains two showers, two toilets, and sinks.

The kitchen is another hub of activity, and is well suited to handle the load. The work area is centered around a massive 10-by-5-foot granite island, creating workspace for several helping hands. In the dining area, a long, distressed maple table seats 8, and a built-in restaurant-style booth accommodates 6 more. Much like the rest of the home, the dining area is surround by windows, framing views of our beautiful natural setting.

Currently, our facilities provide for activities on a half-court basketball area, a campsite in the woods, and walking/biking trails. Caring for alpacas, chickens and mini horses, and tending to the garden are also fun outdoor options.
